Consider a better solution: sort items by chests. There are chests provided in Alchemy rooms, kitchens and such, utilizing those storage slots may not be a bad idea.
I put all my ingredients right next to Enchanting table, all groceries next to the cooking pot, all soul gems and valuable loots in the master bedroom. Intuitive sorting according to their usages. No pain, no hassle.
Skyrim is designed to be sensible and versatile. ;)
